Chiaki AU Premise
Premise/History Changes
~ Dera's mother left Italy with her tour rather than staying on with her liaison, mainly due to 'urging' from her paramour's wife. No one at the time was aware she was pregnant.
~ Back in Japan Dera was born Chiaki; and though her mother was a single parent under rather unkind circumstance fame and a calm demeanor took the edge off the public scorn of bearing a bastard.
~ For the first several years of her life Chiaki took after her mother, learning piano and several languages, a truly accelerated student who was proud to excel just to make her mother smile.
~ When Chiaki was six her mother was diagnoses with late stage spinal cancer. The malady was previously undiagnosed and passed off as exhaustion from touring and the stress of being a single mother. She lived for a further nine months after the death sentence was passed, pulling herself through chemo and spending time with her daughter. Chiaki did not attend school during this time period and speaks very, very rarely of what passed during those days of her mother's decline.
~ At the funeral there was a heated debate as to who would take in the lingering child. Due to academic excellence and musical leanings Chiaki was admitted to a boarding school with every intent to turn out a true prodigy.
~ As in any other school, bullying could be an issue overlooked by teachers. Due to Chiaki's youth and lack of family ties she became a target for a period of time. A very brief period of time.
~ Chiaki was expelled after causing a good portion of the girl's dormitory to catch fire at the age of eight. She was remanded into the care of the Naminori Child Guidance center to put distance between her and the private school.
~ She displayed a disturbing tendency towards extreme acts when bullied or eventually when questioned. By the age of ten she rarely returned to the dormitories, though she attended school on all test days as if to spite expectations. Outside of school she was more often seen running with a variety of young, female gang members. She rarely seemed to 'join' a gang so much as study them and move on.
~ Chiaki settled on dynamite as a weapon by the age of twelve, using it often to establish a clear zone around areas she preferred gangs stay away from. She changed her name to Gokudera for reasons of her own. She gained a reputation as erratic, insane, and simply bad news, though the areas she ate her meals at and attended school did not see these extreme behaviors.
~ At age thirteen a traveling doctor stepped forward as the brother of Chiaki's father. He had as proof a letter written by Chiaki's mother before her death admitting to her daughter's existence. Shamal claimed responsibility for her, renting an apartment for the two of them and finding ways to track her down at least a few times a week. Within a month she was tracking him in kind, dragging him out of volunteer clinics to just eat lunch with him and disappear. He calls it progress. She calls him annoying.
~ Age fourteen, Gokudera is seen more often at school though she still refuses to wear the uniform most days and has constant, running battles with the campus disciplinary committee. She and Hibari seem to have declared an unofficial truce: they time where they walk to avoid each other when possible, though never admit to such. Hibari does this to avoid property damage. Chiaki does this to avoid more cracked ribs and having to make someone bleed that much.
~ At 15 despite poor attendance she reliably shows up on all days she will have cleaning duty, turns in all assignments, and holds the top percentile on tests. She simply wishes to do so on her own terms. She has skewed priorities to say the least and severe trust issues paired with a quick temper her mother never displayed. Shamal hopes she'll outgrow these traits eventually.
